Don't keep us hanging! I know Corstorphinense (the original) blew over some years ago.

Sango kaku is putting out a phenomenal number of flowers this year, looks very pretty with the new leaves contrasting against the flowers and bark. I've tried to get a wide shot but I don't think it conveys the scale:

Dissectums just coming out now with lots of flowers again. Filigree, unknown or generic dissectum, Sunset:

Most of the amoenums not out yet, and various other things just starting. Red Pygmy, Kinran, and Ichigyoji trying to make up its mind:

(Almost) all of my maples that have already flowered are flowering again, and even some of them have flowers for the first year.

A consequence of last summer's very dry and hot summer, the plant preparing itself to have many children in case it may die if the weather is so hot and dry again ? Some of the seedlings could survive, and be the beginning of a more resistant strain ?

I wonder how much of this can be scientifically backed : coincidence or consequence ?

I haven't yet designed my garden so the maples are making their best show, but close-ups make nice photos.

These two are potted trees, 40 cm from each other, a big foot apart. In the ground they would have larger leaves.

So very slow here in Hampshire for 2023, just too cold... Have been busy removing the trees I lost in the heat and drought of 22. But on a positive note, it makes room for some new cultivars...
But in the meantime here are a few of the ones that survived and are just leafing out.

Super - thanks for sharing Alain - you have several there that look interesting :) In particular the red one with an interesting leaf shape and deep serrations to the edge of the leaf.

I’ve been potting on quite a few trees from 3 gal to 5 gal potsthat I didn’t get to do earlier in the year.. I’ve only been lightly straightening out roots that have wound round the root mass and lightly teased the sides.. no big dressing..hoping I’ll get away with that given they have only just leafed out.

The huge and pretty old tree I collected from the grounds of a property being knocked down and the site sold off by the company I used to work for - my boss said just take it so I was happy to oblige, took a good 6 hours to get it out carefully but so far seems to be happy in down the side of the house in shelter with some late day sun. I'm not too sure what cultivar it is but this year may give some more clues! Plan is either to grow it on to recover, then into a proper pot and sell on, or possibly next year or the following, cut it back really hard and transition it into a sort of large bonsai piece.

Sango Kaku doing well again this year
    Sango Kaku 23042023.jpg

Oridono Nishiki doesn't have half as much pink on it this year, I wonder if it could do with more sun. It will get more sun until midday but not until the start of summer, at the moment it's still mostly shaded most of the day.

Mikazuki, one of my favourite new additions last year
    Mikazuki 23042023.jpg

Japanese Sunrise next to Inaba Shidare, hoping the sunrise will put on some decent growth this year or next if it can get it's roots going well. This corner gets full blasting sun from morning until 1pm (Bed needs a weed and a mulch!)
    Japanese Sunrise Inaba Shidare 26042023.jpg

Finally got this opposite corner filled and planted out and it gave me somewhere to put the Atropurpureum and Emerald Lace, which in turn means I now have an excuse to buy an Omureyama to go out the front where the EL was going! This corner is full sun from 1pm onwards, so will keep an eye on it this year.
    Emerald Lace Atropurpureum 26042023.jpg

And a couple of shots of two small areas I've been working on tidying up at my new job the last couple of weeks while they're beginning to look really nice in spring after a damp start to the year.
