Yesterday I noticed the 'Kotohime' outside my kitchen window had started to leaf out, actual leaves in the middle of February! I never would have expected it, but climate change...

To be fair it is in a very sheltered location close to the house for the first time this year. In the old location further away it was always first-ish into leaf, even there.

    Picture from today, 15th February:

Lol, I didn't want it to leaf out already! Hopefully we won't get another "Beast from the East" this year!

Buds are getting fat fast on some of mine! It doesn’t feel like nearly a year ago when I was going out in the evenings like a man man when frosts were forecast with many sheets of fleece and old bed sheets..eek!

Hoping we don't have those awful frosts again this year , just moved a lot of trees in pots today for the two storms heading our way in the next couple of days with predicted severe gale force winds in the Yorkshire and northern counties ??

I spotted this 3-4 yr-old seedling that is about to bud out. I lost the tag, but from the leaves I thought it could be A. sieboldianum : it has not as many lobes as shirasawanum, or japonicum, and the leaves are a bit smaller (though it's hard to say about a young seedling). Since you can't use a file name with a"?", I named it Acer sieboldianum NI - for "Non Identifié", not "Norn Ireland" ;0)

Found this little one very confused about the New England weather. I'll be it's protector until the time is right.

Spring looks around! despite the mega storm today...

I've got a new seedling (first one out of all my trays) that has come up (I put the tray of seeds outside in November 2021, just 4 months ago)

    IMG_6184.jpg

Also, some of the seedlings that came up last year, start to have big buds (and aphids already also! They must have overwintered in the buds

So worrying when our trees start to leaflet now. The memories of Spring 2021 are still very raw, as M @ROEBUK says.

'Katsura' and 'Orange Dream'. When I looked at the photo, I spotted a detail I hadn't noticed before :

And to add a little colour in the garden, Prunus mume, Prunus pissardii and Pleione (formosana?) about to open :

The first flowers on my Prunus pissardii this evening :

    prunus-pissard_220225b.jpg prunus-pissard_220225c.jpg

I wish people abroad would just care about when trees flower, and nothing else.

I have Iris reticulata in pots, so far, only the yellow ones have begun to flower. I hope that the light blue ones will come out soon.

Yellow and light blue, that makes a nice flag...

... and the small ones labelled "Rich 10" are swelling. I'll wait a few days to repot them in individual pots.

Lots of Cherries out in Paris, but also in Argentan, (a local town), and I saw a neighbor's Bird Cherry (prunus avium) is starting. Here, snowdrops are fading, daffs coming out full. Some maples and others are getting, as usual, an early start. The worst is the ever eager A. buergerianum ssp formosanum, I'm at a loss for what to do with it. Ready to be planted, I'm afraid it will just expire. As you can see the first of the rubrum is blooming, and the very fascinating A. pycnanthum getting ready to burst its flowers.

    Very nice pics Emery.
A lot of mine are on their way too, and since I have the same weather as you have in Normandy, I'm repotting as many as I can. I wish I had a larger garden so I could plant at least half of them...

Ha, don't you get like twice the sunshine I do? :) I know it's warmer, Jardin de France and all of that. Can't complain today, 13C and feels like 17, lovely sunshine.

Not a single cloud today, no wind, 14°C at 15:00, and it felt like 18°C <LOL>

What? I've been in front of my screen for nearly an hour ? Back to "work" now...

    Cherry trees already started flowering!
A bit weird as it is forecast to get some snow in the UK around the 3rd week of March... I wonder if we'll get some, down south
