Hi! I have a little cactus which has recently grown a strange structure. It looks like a root coming out of the top, which might mean it needs more water... I might have seen such a structure before on this cactus or its parent- I have a vague memory of perhaps seeing it... Essentially I'd just like to know if I should do anything about it. Thanks :)
The mother plant had a pup which outgrew it and the top of that pup became this little cactus, which I cut off and then potted around July last year. Since then, it hasn't seemed to resume growth yet.
Hi Mandarin, Ok, thanks, if that's all it is, I'll probably just leave it. I'm not actually sure what this cactus is. It was sold by a collector as Peanut Cactus, but I think it's something else. This is the original plant.
I cannot rule out Peanut Cactus as a possibility, but I do not believe I have seen them growing aerial roots. BTW, the central stem in the last picture has grown in too low light.
Thanks, it is outside getting more light now. :) I have seen your replies in many other threads and you are certainly a very helpful member: good job and keep it up!
A cactus putting out "aerial roots" might be a sign of root damage . Check for root mealies. Over watering. Rotted roots.
