... I believe. It forms very dense cushions on exposed rocks over minimal organic matter or in cracks in the rocks. The moss itself is tiny, but the cushions can be quite large, more than 10-15 cm in diameter. They are not firmly attached to the rocks, it takes very little effort to lift an entire ‘cake’.
This is fairly widespread in the UK and is known to attach itself to cement and pourus concrete. Blackbirds love flicking this off. Always gives the appearance of little pin cushions.
