I'm looking for a Canadian source of Traminette cuttings or rooted vines. Does anyone know of someone growing this newish hybrid in Canada? Cheers, Darryl
I grow Traminette, along with 20 other grape varieties, in Colorado, Colorado has conditions that would be similar to conditions in Canada, and in some cases worse conditions. Due to Colorado's altitude (Avg. 6,300 Feet) experiences cold winters, high snow conditions, with freezes occurring every night between late November to March. Traminette, does fine, and produces white grapes, good for wine and excellent for jelly. I think finding a Canadian source will be difficult, however, there are many sources in the USA. Many nurseries will not ship to Canada, due to restrictions placed by the Canadian government against agricultural shipments into Canada. - Millet
We have Traminette, but no cuttings available till spring 09. Check with the sources at: http://www.littlefatwino.com/vineavailability.html Ralph
Thanks for the replies Millet and Ralph. Ralph, can you tell me where you originally sourced your traminette cuttings?
All our plants originate from the CFIA certified virus free repository in Saanich, BC. They distribute cuttings once a year (March 1) and will sell to private individuals after all of the research and commercial propagators requests have been satisfied. You could also try contacting the Vineland research station in Ontario though they have a different list of plants and may not have Traminette. Ralph
I have obtained 29 cuttings of Traminette from CFIA. I would have liked more but I've got somewhere to start now. Thanks much Ralph. All it cost me was shipping. Now I get to callus and pot them in my greenhouse here in Nova Scotia along with the other 6,250 cuttings I've obtained consisting of Cabernet Foch, Cabernet Libre, Petit Milo (all Valentin Blatner crosses) and Regent (disease resistant vinifera from Germany). Wish me luck. Thanks for the help folks, Darryl
