with my tropical hibiscus h.rosa seninses seeds i usually never give the seeds any special treatment just put them in soil and keep watered and what type of soil depends on what i have at the time if i mix the soil i use one part peat one part perlite and 2 parts top soil sometimes i get lazy and just buy a decent draining potting soil and use that i live in florida so bottom heat is not really needed. the seedlings will take anywhere from 2 to 5 years to bloom i have had some bloom in just over a year and actually have one that has never bloomed and it is about 6 years old most of the ones that i have they have bloomed in about 2 years. i have yet to get a good hybrid meaning one worthy of naming most have ended up as rootstock or compost. i can plant mine directly in the ground when they get a few feet tall so not sure how long it will take in the uk being as how you probably cannot direct plant them
