What is growing on the trunk of my Palm tree?

    I have new growth in my palms that I have never seen. Can anyone identify what the growth is and if I should be concerned?

    Appears to be an inflorescence.

    I suspect the OP would appreciate a more detailed explanation (and so would I). If you have time . . . what is an inflorescence in this context? Is it good, bad or indifferent to the health of the palm? Is there any reason, other than cosmetic, to try and remove it?

    From what I've seen to date, such growth on palm trees is associated with flowers. It would help to know the species of palm in question in order to positively identify it.

    I don't actually see in the photos what we're talking about here, but "inflorescence" is just the word for a group of flowers that grow in some arrangement instead of singly. It's a normal thing for palms to flower.
