I have a vague recollection that maples are unusual in that you don't graft them in late winter/early spring like fruit trees, but now I can't find the source. Any tips on grafting maples; which standard techniques work, and which don't?

Winter grafting. I started grafting on the 6th of February. First photo is from 27.02 Second is from yesterday. I still have to babysit them for 2 more weeks before removing the poly tent and turning off the heating.
