The worst here should be between Monday night to Thursday morning, but not so much wind, which is good. The temperatures will be over 0° (roughly 8-9°) in the afternoon and light frost/ showers of mixed snow and rain in the morning, I think that even those that have leafed out can stand it, like they would do in the mountains of Japan ;-)

As I like to say, I'm desperately optimistic.

It was only meant to go down to 2° C here last night with no frost, but at 0530hrs in my garden this morning, everything had that darned white covering. It's going to get worse from tomorrow.

I hope "Meteo-France" is right when they forecast -2°C at the worst where I live. A lot of my maples have leafed out, some are in their early stage, colder temperatures would probably damage the tender leaves. And I hope I'll have cherries too...

Light frost here, -1.1° min. We brought the young grafts and a few pots that were in full leaf inside, have to schlep them back out now as it's not supposed to freeze tonight.

But Tues, Wed, Thurs will be the real test, -2 currently forecast, it may be difficult for maples in ground. I'm especially worried about the 2 morifolium, wild collected and just planted, that have large leaves.

That's gardening in the epoch of climate change, for sure.

That old saying 'Don't put them out until May is without', holds very true this year. Perhaps we are also forgetting it is an early Easter.

-3° C forecast now for Tuesday and Wednesday, ouch.

Just finished my watering regime for when frosts are forecast. I do this every year at this time to give that little extra moisture to my trees roots when the frosts cause a problem up top. I have found it does help.
This was a tip from an old departed maple friend many years ago and it worked for him.

Yes I know it's going to be cold tonight, but I'm sat in my garden right now, with the sun shining and 16°C and just look at this sky.

A beautiful setting Alain, the blue skies are everywhere. Think they call it, 'the calm before the storm'.

Yeah, we say "le calme avant la tempête". It must be a sailor's saying...

It was first used in a play called the Dumb Knight in 1601, although tempest was used instead of storm.
Used therin afterwards to talk about the weather. Funny where sayings come from !!

Thanks for the origin of the expression, I'm always interested in this kind of stuff that are, basically, of no use in the real world ;-)

The use of "orage" is much more frequent in French, "tempest" is used for sea-storms of exceptional harsh weather like when trees are uprooted by the wind.

"Storm" is Germanic, whereas "tempest" comes from the French (Norman-French) like 35% of the English vocabulary, even words that came back to us like tennis, tunnel, ticket, barbecue, etc. that the French consider of Anglo-saxon origin.

End of wise guy spreading his science like jam on a piece of toast. ;°D

Our forecast has just been updated to - 3° C tonight and -4° C for tomorrow into Wednesday. My new leaves are going to fry. Really upsetting!! So it's roll on June and second flush. Never the same as Spring though.

Looks like we have almost the same weather D,
so i expect to have some frost at night like you should have.
I guess -2° or - 3° is not that bad just for 2 days.
Then we will be back to enjoy our maples that will keep leafing out.
