Some Japanese maples are hard to root from cuttings. Some root O.K. but produce inferior root systems. Does anyone know which ones can be successfully grown from cuttings? Thanks, Fred
I have successfully rooted Acer palmatum 'Sumi nagashi' from stem cuttings, and I expect most other similar vigorous cultivars would root easily, as well.
Rooting I've seen a local propagator have good success using bottom heat and mist with Bloodgood and Seiryu and moderate success with Sango Kaku. Suminigashi was more difficult as were the dissectums.
