I have a small red maple tree, southern exposure, out in the open in my back yard. The tree has a white mold around the entire trunk, starting at the base at ground level and moving up the trunk about 3 feet now. The tree is about 5 years old, is otherwise healthy looking, and has not had this problem before. I have another small red maple tree near this one that is not affected. Any idea what this is? Will it damage the tree? How do I get rid of it?
