And yet another question... Sorry, today is my catch-up day! I have 3 cuttings from a small pink rose I found growing in a field in southern Ontario. They looked just like Eglantine. Anyway, of these 3 cuttings I have, it has been about 7 weeks and they still haven't rooted. I put them in potting soil in yogurt containers with holes punched in the bottom, and put 2 liter soda bottles over them to keep in humidity. They are still alive and look healthy, but there just isn't anything going on. I took one of the 3 out of its soil today and put it in a glass of water instead, because I've seen on the web that some people have more success that way. Shouldn't I be seeing some kind of activity by now?
Don't know much about rose cuttings, but here is a good thread on the topic: http://www.botanicalgarden.ubc.ca/forums/showthread.php?p=24962#post24962
If your cuttings still look heathy, wait and have patience. But make sure that it gets enough light - bright indirect sunlight is best.
Thanks for the advice! As you can tell from my posts, patience is something I need to work on .... ;-)
Here is something that mght help in understanding how roses root or possibly not. Also go to Chery Netter's site the link http://stason.org/TULARC/crafts/rose-gardening/18-How-do-I-propagate-roses.html
I replaced the article with a link to it. The articles are copyrighted by the writers, so posting the whole section is a bit much. Nice articles though, so hopefully people don't mind scrolling down past the ads. And a gentle reminder on copyrights. Just use a link when the info is not free for educational use or some such wording. Here is a link to the whole series of rose articles from that site. http://stason.org/TULARC/crafts/rose-gardening/ I could not get to the Cheryl Netter site by the url in the article. 1950Greg is the following link the same info? http://members.fortunecity.com/cnetter/rose_tour/rose_cut.html
