First post here I need advice for a privacy screen to plant along my backyard fencing. I live in Quesnel. Zone 3b I’d like it to be: non- invasive Narrow 8’+ Tall Evergreen Flowering is a plus Low maintenance is a plus Any tips or advice is much appreciated!
If you are referring to the USDA Hardiness Zone system here or are using a Canadian zoning scheme that approximates it I can think of no broad-leaved evergreen shrub of any height that will be hardy in that cold of an area. Have you seen anything in existing plantings in your vicinity that might fit the bill? If not that could be a hint - you will probably have to use some kind of quite hardy conifer instead - again looking around to see what is already present in your area could be quite instructive. Zone 3 - at least in the USDA system - equates to a very cold winter climate, one that will severely limit the variety of woody ornamental plants with persistent foliage.
'Blue Arrow' and 'Skyrocket' Junipers both are hardy in the USDA hardiness zone 3b and seem to fit your requirements.
Worth considering Black Spruce Picea mariana - slow-growing, but will reach the desired height (and more) with a fairly narrow crown; no flowers, but it does have decorative purple young cones even as a small tree.
